About ME

Mario Urlic
Who am I
My name is Mario Urlic.
I have been active in financial markets since 2003 — across stocks, foreign exchange, commodities, and later digital assets. Over more than two decades, I’ve experienced the markets from every angle: as a trader, as a manager, and as someone responsible for capital, strategy, and decision-making under pressure.
But what defines my journey is not just experience — it’s perspective.
Because markets eventually teach you one thing:
It’s not about predicting movements.
It’s about understanding systems.
From Trading Markets to Building Them
For years, I operated inside the system — analyzing charts, managing risk, executing trades.
I saw how retail traders struggle.
I saw how institutions operate differently.
And I saw the gap between real value… and perceived value.
At one point, that realization became clear:
Trading alone doesn’t create value — it redistributes it.
That’s when my focus shifted.
From trading markets…
to building infrastructure around them.
Early Vision
In 2012, I launched MyBusinessCard, a business platform designed to connect companies and users through structured digital profiles.
The project was described in the media as a “Facebook for business”, aiming to organize economic activity in a more efficient way than traditional search engines.
The platform allowed businesses to create their own presence, connect with partners, and reach users through precise filtering by region and sector.
Fully self-funded and developed over a year, the project later evolved into the concept of Quickseek.
Although I shifted my focus toward financial markets at the time, the core idea remained unchanged:
connecting real-world value with digital systems.
What I Build Today
Today, I am the founder of Materra — a UAE-based deep-tech ecosystem focused on connecting real-world materials, nanotechnology, and programmable digital systems.
Materra is not a continuation of trading.
It is the evolution of everything I learned from it.
The same principles apply:
- discipline
- timing
- structure
- risk control
But now — at a system level.
Through Materra, we are building a foundation for:
- nano-engineered materials
- real-world asset tokenization (RWA)
- and a new type of digital commodity infrastructure
Positioned from the UAE to the global market.
Note
This website reflects my active trading and educational work from 2015 to 2021.
While I no longer publish regular market analysis, the principles shared here remain unchanged.
